Traffic Control Training Course Overview

This Traffic Control course training will provide students with the skills and knowledge they require to function as a Traffic Controller with a stop-slow bat in and around active construction and resource sites. For more information on this training package, please visit the below link.

Once completed the Statement of Attainment must be taken (along with the Accredited Traffic Controller Application form and licence application fee) to Qld Transport when lodging your Traffic Controllers Licence Application.

Target Audience

Traffic Control course is suitable for those who wish to operate as Traffic Controller with a stop-slow bat within the Construction, Resources, Transport and Infrastructure industries.

Course Delivery

Theoretical Requirements: 1 full day (8 hours) in classroom with an accredited Traffic Control trainer.

Practical Requirements: 20 hours of on-site placement completed through a licensed traffic control company, and signed off by a qualified Traffic Controller. This placement must be completed within 3 months (please note extensions may be granted by Transport & Main Roads under certain circumstances).

Students can complete this practical (20 hours) experience with their own employer OR a licensed Traffic Control company they have a relationship with.

Please note there is also a cost involved once you lodge your certificate with Transport & Main Roads (TMR) to gain your ‘Traffic Control Licence’. This is payable to TMR. Please contact TMR for price updates on this licence fee as it may change.

Final Assessment: Please note that once your supervisor has signed you off on your 20 hours of Traffic Control, you need to see the trainer one last time for a brief ‘Final Assessment’ of your competence.

Face to face training and assessment is conducted at one of Link Resources purpose built training facilities. Upon arrangement, training and assessment can be conducted on-site at the premises of industry clients providing there a suitable infrastructure and industry training facilities.

Outcomes of Traffic Control Training

Students who are deemed competent will receive a Statement of Attainment (RIIWHS205D Control traffic with stop-slow bat) recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework. This certification is nationally recognised. The Statement is issued by Link Resources Training Pty Ltd (RTO 45483).

Entry Requirements

It is a requirement of this course to obtain a Construction Induction White Card. Students will be able to attend the theory component of the training if they do not possess a White Card. However, they will need to provide Link Resources Training with a copy their White Card, or evidence they have completed the training prior to commencing the practical training.

Participants must be over the age of 18 years and will need a basic level of language and literacy, as this course requires participants to complete a theory assessment and receive a 100% pass mark.

Drivers Licence It is a requirement for your to have held an open or provisional driver licence (Australian or foreign) within the last 5 years (this ensures applicants have an understanding of vehicle manoeuvrability and braking dynamics).

Students will be required to obtain the following PPE to complete their practical assessment.

• Long Pants with reflective stripes
• Long Sleeved High Visibility shirt with reflective stripes
• Hard Hat with brim
• Steel capped safety boots
• Gloves
• Safety glasses (sunglasses ok)
• Sunscreen

Training & Education Pathways: After achieving these units of competency students may undertake a range of associated resources and infrastructure units and qualifications.

Employment Pathways: After achieving these units of competency students may seek employment in civil, construction, resources, manufacturing, utilities and maintenance industries.
