4WD Skill Set training provides the knowledge and practical training required to safely operate and maintain four-wheel drive vehicles in a variety of off-road and remote conditions. Our Skill Set course includes PMASUP236 Operate vehicles in the field, RIIVEH305F Operate and maintain a four wheel drive vehicle AND RIIVEH201E Operate a light vehicle. Participants learn how to conduct safety checks, navigate challenging terrain, perform vehicle recovery, and comply with WHS requirements for field operations.

Four-wheel drive training is essential for workers and supervisors involved in mining, construction, utilities, environmental fieldwork, emergency services, and infrastructure projects, particularly where unsealed or difficult terrain is involved.

Once all course requirements are completed, you will receive a Statement of Attainment that is nationally recognised across Australia.

What will this 4WD course teach me?

Our 4WD Skill Set course provides skills and education across both theory and practical to safely operate and maintain four-wheel drive vehicles.

You will learn:

  • Pre-start checks, recovery procedures, and emergency operations
  • Driving techniques for navigating steep inclines, deep washouts, and unsealed roads

This is a nationally recognised course, delivered under WHS regulations, ensuring students develop the knowledge and skills required to drive confidently and safely.

Course delivery

Face-to-face training and assessment are conducted at one of Link Resources’ purpose-built training facilities. Upon arrangement, training and assessment can be conducted on-site at the premises of industry clients, provided they have a suitable infrastructure and industry training facilities.

Entry requirements

All students must be literate in the English language (no interpreters allowed).

Operators must have the appropriate class of driver’s licence before taking charge of the vehicle and be physically capable of operating the vehicle.

At enquiry, students can enter the program by expressing an interest and being sent an information pack that contains a booking notification and course information (Course Brochure). This interest process enables the RTO and client to work together to ensure the course is suitable for them and to identify any additional support needs & make adequate provisions.

No pre-requisites exist for these Units of Competency.
