TLIC0031 is a nationally recognised one-day defensive driving course designed to sharpen practical driving skills, improve hazard perception, and encourage safe driving behaviour in a variety of environments.

Whether you’re navigating urban traffic, rural roads, or remote worksites, this unit involves training in risk control, low risk driving strategies, and effective vehicle management. For many experienced drivers, the act of driving becomes habitual – which can lead to an underestimation of the risks involved. This course challenges that complacency.

Through a combination of classroom instruction and real-world car control skills training, participants develop safe driving practices that align with traffic safety laws, relevant traffic laws, and the principles of safe and efficient regulation. It’s a vital course for maintaining compliance and enhancing road safety in high-risk industries.

Target audience

This defensive driver training is ideal for workers who need to operate vehicles in unpredictable or challenging environments, including unsealed roads, varied terrains, and remote worksites. It’s suitable for those in construction, civil infrastructure, mining, energy, utilities, and local government who regularly drive for work.

Outcomes of TLIC0031 Training

Upon successful completion of this training session, students will receive a Statement of Attainment under the Australian Qualifications Framework. This certification is nationally recognised and issued by Link Resources Training Pty Ltd (RTO 45483).

Course delivery

Training and assessment are conducted face-to-face by qualified instructors at Link Resources’ dedicated driver training facilities. On-site delivery for organisations is also available, provided there is appropriate terrain and space for practical activities such as slow speed manoeuvres and emergency braking.

Entry requirements

There are no formal pre-requisites for this course. However, participants must:

Hold a valid driver’s licence
Have basic English literacy (interpreters not permitted)
Be physically fit to operate a vehicle

Participants will also need:

A USI (Unique Student Identifier)
Access to their own vehicle (can be shared), or opt for a hire vehicle from Link Resources
A minimum half tank of fuel in the vehicle if bringing your own
Long-sleeved shirt, long pants, closed-in shoes, and a hat
Sunscreen, insect repellent, and plenty of drinking water and snacks

If required, vehicles can be hired for $175 per person per day. This includes fuel, cleaning, recovery gear, and full access to the training area.

During the enquiry process, students will be sent a booking form and course overview to help determine if the course is suitable and whether any support needs to be arranged.
