Course details

This nationally recognised course equips workers and supervisors with the knowledge and skills to identify, manage, and reduce the risks associated with respirable crystalline silica (RCS) in the workplace.

With new WHS regulations in South Australia coming into effect on 1 September 2024, this crystalline silica substances course is critical for anyone undertaking high-risk crystalline silica processing in the building and construction industry. As a widely abundant mineral, silica training aligns with SafeWork SA requirements and helps businesses meet their duty of care under the Work Health and Safety Act.

This silica awareness training course includes but is not limited to what crystalline silica is and where it is commonly found, health hazards related to RCS, including silicosis and lung cancer, what constitutes high-risk processing activities, regulatory responsibilities of PCBUs under the new silica laws, how to implement and manage control measures effectively and reduce exposure, PPE and respiratory protection requirements, and the role of silica risk control plans and health monitoring.
