Target audience

This course is suited to workers across Brisbane who are required to safely work at height, or who may be exposed to a fall risk as part of their role.

It is commonly undertaken by:

Entry requirements

All participants must have sufficient English language skills to read and understand safety instructions, complete assessments, and follow trainer directions. Interpreters are not permitted.
Due to the physical nature of the training, participants should have a reasonable level of fitness and mobility.
People with back, leg, arm or joint injuries may find it challenging to climb, access training structures or wear a harness for extended periods.
Students must be physically capable of wearing a harness and working at height during practical components.

There are no formal prerequisites for this unit of competency.

How long is the RIIWHS204E – Work safely at heights certification valid for?

The Statement of Attainment is nationally recognised and valid for three years. Most employers and site operators require refresher training at that point to keep certification current with site induction requirements.

Can I use a ladder instead of fall protection equipment?

In some circumstances, provided a risk assessment shows a ladder is an appropriate control for the task and duration involved. This course covers how to make that assessment correctly, and when other fall protection equipment is required instead.

Is this the same as a "working at heights ticket"?

Yes — “working at heights ticket” is a common term for this qualification. On successful completion of RIIWHS204E – Work safely at heights, you’ll receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment, valid for three years.
