This Confined Space Entry course provides the knowledge and hands-on training needed to safely access, work in, and manage confined space tasks. Participants learn how to identify hazards, conduct gas testing, follow permit systems, and respond to emergency operations with the correct use of PPE.

Confined space training is essential for workers and supervisors involved in construction, mining, utilities, emergency services, and industrial maintenance. For more detailed regulations, refer to the Safe Work Australia – Confined Spaces Code of Practice.

Once all course requirements are completed, you will receive a Statement of Attainment that is nationally recognised across Australia.

What do I need to be able to work in confined spaces?

This Confined Space Entry program is designed to give students the necessary skills and knowledge to safely and competently enter and work in confined spaces. Training and assessment are compliant with AS2865, including but not limited to:

Applicable Legislations and company confined space procedures
Definitions and types of confined spaces
Hazard identification and risk management procedures
Hazardous atmospheres, including gas monitoring techniques
Isolation, purging, ventilation
Roles and responsibilities of the team, including standby
Rescue equipment and procedures
Industry case studies

If a worker is required to enter a confined space, a person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU) must ensure a confined space entry permit is issued. This permit must be prepared by a competent person and provided to the worker before entry is allowed.

This course is ideal for workers who enter or work around confined spaces and are responsible for tasks like gas testing, issuing or working under entry permits, or acting as a standby person. Outcomes of confined space skill set training

Course delivery

Face-to-face training and assessment are conducted at one of Link Resources’ purpose-built training facilities. Upon arrangement, training and assessment can be conducted on-site at the premises of industry clients, provided they have a suitable infrastructure and industry training facilities.

Entry requirements

Entry into the confined spaces course requires:

Literacy in the English language
Basic physical fitness is required to work safely in confined spaces
Ability to use PPE correctly, including breathing apparatus if required

There are no academic pre-requisites. If you have special needs, individual training support can be arranged to help meet the learning outcomes and course requirements.

Participants should be prepared to engage in practical exercises involving gas testing, hazard identification, and confined space work practices.

If the participant is under 18, a parent or guardian must sign the enrolment form on behalf of the student. Students will be required to obtain the following PPE to complete their practical assessment and to wear it as part of the requirements for their final assessment.

What is a confined space?

Do I need a confined space ticket to work on-site?

Yes. Most construction, mining, utilities, and industrial sites require workers to hold a confined space ticket before entering or working in confined spaces. This course provides a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment and wallet-sized ticket to prove your competency.

While there is no set expiry date, industry best practice recommends refresher training every 2–3 years, especially for high-risk or infrequent confined space work. Many employers will require up-to-date evidence of recent training to ensure compliance.
