Truck mounted elevated work platform used during Link Resources medium rigid licence MR training for EWP operators

Course details

The EWPA Yellow Card Training Program is a recognised training initiative developed by the Elevating Work Platform Association of Australia (EWPA), which is available through our public courses in Tasmania, and soon to be Adelaide.

The program delivers structured, competency-based training in the safe use of various types of MEWPs, with options including:

  • Vertical Lift (VL) – Ideal for low-level access in confined indoor or warehouse spaces.
  • Scissor Lift (SL) – Used widely in construction, maintenance, and warehousing for vertical lifting.
  • Self-Propelled Boom Lift (BL) – Provides extensive reach and flexibility at height, both vertically and horizontally.
  • Trailer Mounted Lift (TL) – Towable access equipment suited for temporary work at heights.
  • Truck Mounted Lift (TM) – Mobile lifting solutions mounted on truck bodies for quick deployment.
  • Advanced Boom (AB) – Designed for complex or larger MEWP operations, requiring additional safety awareness and control.

Participants may choose to complete a single module or multiple modules, depending on the type of elevating work platform they will operate in the workplace.

Training Pathways:

Following successful completion, students may continue to complete additional EWP modules, refresher courses, or related machinery competencies.

Since 1987, the EWPA has been a leading force in the elevating work platform industry, training over 500,000 operators nationally. The Yellow Card is a trademarked certification, recognised Australia-wide, across industries such as construction, mining, logistics, manufacturing, and maintenance.

For those seeking to operate a telehandler, the EWPA’s sister program offers the TSHA Gold Card – a separate, industry-standard certification specifically for telescopic handlers.

When you complete your training with Link Resources, you can be confident that you are receiving the official EWPA Yellow Card or TSHA Gold Card, ensuring your skills are formally recognised by the industry’s peak body.

Upon successful completion, students will:

  • Receive a nationally recognised EWPA Yellow Card.
  • Develop safe operating procedures for mobile elevating work platforms.
  • Understand employer obligations under national WHS legislation.
  • Complete an online questionnaire and practical assessment to demonstrate skills.
  • Attain verification certificate for competency.

Employment Pathways:

The EWPA Yellow Card qualification enables access to various industries requiring safe operation of mobile elevating work platforms, including construction, mining, logistics, and maintenance.

This training covers both the theoretical and practical elements required to operate elevating work platforms in compliance with Australian WHS/OHS standards, ensuring you gain complete knowledge . It includes:

  • Hazard identification and risk management specific to MEWP operation.
  • Pre-operational inspections and safe work procedures.
  • Emergency lowering procedures and contingency planning.
  • Understanding load limits, stability factors, and operational safety zones.
  • Application of road and site rules during mobile elevating work platform operation.
  • Hands-on practical assessments on various types of MEWPs under the supervision of accredited trainers.

Importantly, the EWPA Yellow Card serves as proof that an operator has been trained by an accredited EWPA trainer. Only training delivered by EWPA Accredited Trainers qualifies participants for the authentic Yellow Card, providing assurance to employers, site supervisors, and principal contractors that the operator meets recognised industry standards.
