Mainland Training Isn't a Practical Option for Most Tasmanian Operators

Being an island creates a version of the training problem that no other state faces quite the same way. Sending workers to the mainland for training means flights, accommodation, and multiple days off-site — for a course that might take one day to complete. For small teams, that cost is disproportionate. For larger operations, coordinating a rotation of workers through mainland training is a logistical problem in itself.

For the mining crews on Tasmania’s West Coast, the aquaculture operations in the Huon Valley and Macquarie Harbour, the agricultural and food processing businesses along the North-West Coast, and the forestry and construction teams spread across the state, the distance problem is real and recurring.

Link Resources trainers travel to your Tasmanian worksite. Your team stays on-site. No flights. No mainland accommodation. Training gets done.

How On-Site Training Works for Tasmanian Operations

1

Tell us your site and what you need

Call or complete the form above. Let us know your location, team size, and courses required. We know Tasmania — from the West Coast to the Huon Valley, the North-West Coast to the Midlands. Tell us where you are and we’ll tell you what we can do.

2

We build a training day around your operation

We confirm a date, assign the right trainer, and prepare site-specific materials. We account for your industry’s requirements, whether that’s confined space and gas testing for a mining operation at Rosebery, working at heights for aquaculture infrastructure at Macquarie Harbour, or forklift certification for a food processing facility in Devonport.

Tasmanian operations in mining, aquaculture, and forestry often require training tailored to specific site hazards, gas testing and confined space for underground environments, marine safety for aquaculture, chainsaw and elevated work for forestry. If your requirements go beyond a standard course, Link Resources can build a custom program.

Meeting Tasmania's Workplace Safety Requirements

Tasmania harmonised with the national model Work Health and Safety legislation in 2013. The Work Health and Safety Act 2012 (Tas) governs workplace safety obligations across most industries, with WorkSafe Tasmania as the primary regulator.

For Tasmania's mining industry, additional regulatory requirements apply:

  • Mines Work Inspection Act 1956 (Tas): historically governs mine safety inspection in Tasmania; operators should confirm current legislative requirements with WorkSafe Tasmania
  • WorkSafe Tasmania: administers the WHS Act and has inspection and enforcement powers across all industries, including mining and quarrying

A key consideration for Tasmanian operators: remote and island geography means that training gaps can persist longer than in mainland states. There are fewer providers willing to travel, and flying workers to the mainland is expensive. Documenting current, site-relevant training records is particularly important when WorkSafe Tasmania inspects remote operations.

On-site training delivered in context, at your actual worksite and in your operating environment, supports genuine compliance and is more defensible in a regulatory inspection than generic classroom certification.

Link Resources is a registered training organisation (RTO) under ASQA. All qualifications are issued under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and are nationally recognised.

Common Questions from Tasmanian Operators

Yes. We travel to Tasmanian worksites — including regional and remote locations on the West Coast, in the Huon Valley, and across the North-West. On-site delivery means your team doesn’t need to fly to the mainland for training. Contact us with your location and we’ll confirm logistics.

Yes. We work with aquaculture operators whose sites are only accessible by boat or remote road. On-site delivery is how these workforces get trained without the cost and disruption of transporting crews. Tell us your site location and access requirements when you enquire.

Yes. The West Coast is one of the areas where on-site delivery makes the most practical difference. Pulling a crew from Queenstown or Rosebery for a mainland course is expensive and disruptive. We travel to you. Contact us with your team size and required courses.

Typically 6–10 participants.

For remote Tasmanian locations (West Coast, Huon Valley, North East) we recommend 2 to 4 weeks lead time to confirm trainer travel logistics. For Hobart, Launceston, and the North West Coast, we can often move faster. Contact us and we will advise.

The qualification is identical — same unit of competency, same nationally recognised outcome under ASQA. On-site delivery is contextualised to your workplace and hazards, which makes it more effective for workers and more defensible under WorkSafe Tasmania inspection.

Yes. We can provide all equipment required for specific courses and needs.
