Traffic Control Refresher Training Course Overview

This course is for those students who have previously completed the Traffic Control full course and require a ‘refresher’. There is no requirement to complete a vocational placement; Refresher training is required every three years and industry currency evidence must be supplied (32 hours within the past 12 months). The Transport and Main Roads Department does allow 3 months from expiry to completing the refresher course. For more information on this training package, please visit the below link.

Once completed the Statement of Attainment must be taken to Qld Transport when lodging your Traffic Controllers Renewal Licence Application.

Target Audience

This course is aimed at those who are currently work in traffic control and have completed Traffic Control full course within the past 3 years.

pre course learning

There is no pre course learning required for this Unit of Competency.

Course Delivery

Face to face training and assessment is conducted at one of Link Resources purpose built training facilities. Upon arrangement, training and assessment can be conducted on-site at the premises of industry clients providing there a suitable infrastructure and industry training facilities.

Students who are deemed competent will receive a Statement of Attainment (RIIWHS205E Control traffic with stop-slow bat) recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework. This certification is nationally recognised. The Statement is issued by Link Resources Training Pty Ltd (RTO 45483).

Entry Requirements

Training Renewal Requirements:

Your Traffic Controller Licence must be renewed every three years. Traffic control duties must not be undertaken if your Traffic Controller Industry Authority Card has expired. The renewal process will also apply to participants holding a current out of state traffic controller licence.

You will need to provide:

Currency Of Industry Practice booklet (This booklet MUST BE PROVIDED by participant to trainer or RTO prior to or on the day of training):

To renew your Traffic Controller accreditation in Queensland you are required to demonstrate currency of industry practice as a Traffic Controller. You must provide evidence of having worked at least 32 hours within the last 12 months.

Letter of evidence from employer (of traffic control duties undertaken in the 12 months prior to renewing) – This letter MUST CONTAIN ALL duties performed as a traffic controller within the 12 months leading up to the day of in-class training, e.g. Stop Slow Bat duties, pedestrian watch, etc. (It is your responsibility to ensure that you maintain current accreditation when performing traffic control duties).

Your current Traffic Controller accreditation card & Construction Induction Card.

Drivers Licence: It is a requirement for your to have held an open or provisional driver licence (Australian or foreign) within the last 5 years (this ensures applicants have an understanding of vehicle manoeuvrability and braking dynamics)

Participants must be over the age of 18 years and will need a basic level of language and literacy, as this course requires participants to complete a theory assessment and receive a 100% pass mark.Please note: Participants will not be permitted to undertake in-class training until the Currency of Industry Practice booklet has been submitted for approval by trainer.


Training & Education Pathways: After achieving this unit of competency students may undertake a range of associated resources and infrastructure units and qualifications.

Employment Pathways: After achieving this unit of competency students may maintain employment or additional responsibilities as a Traffic Controller in various industries.
