The GI Coal Surface course (sometimes referred to as ‘GIQ’ or ‘Standard 11’) is suitable for any person working in the Queensland Coal and Metalliferous mining industry, or looking to work in the Queensland Coal and Metalliferous industry. This course is trained and assessed as per the Queensland Mining Safety Inspectorate, and focuses on the below components:
- Required Knowledge Of Legislation
- Appropriate Equipment And PPE
- General Safety (Including Risk Management)
- Isolation And Tagging
- Emergency Procedures
- Lifesaving And Initial Response First Aid
- Firefighting And Fire Prevention
- The Environment
- General Mining Overview
The Standard 11 Refresher training is suitable for those who have previously (within the past 5 years) completed the standard 11 (GIQ) training.
No Pre Course Learning is required for these units of competency.
Face to face training and assessment is conducted at one of Link Resources purpose built training facilities. Upon arrangement, training and assessment can be conducted on-site at the premises of industry clients providing there a suitable infrastructure and industry training facilities.

Students who are deemed competent will receive a Statement of Attainment recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework. This certification is nationally recognised. The Statement is issued by Link Resources Training Pty Ltd (RTO 45483).

For our public courses at our purpose built training facilities trainees must wear suitable clothing (t-shirt, pants and closed in footwear as a minimum).
