This 4WD Skill Set course provides the knowledge and practical training required to safely operate and maintain four-wheel drive vehicles in a variety of off-road and remote conditions. Participants learn how to conduct safety checks, navigate challenging terrain, perform vehicle recovery, and comply with WHS requirements for field operations.
Four-wheel drive training is essential for workers and supervisors involved in mining, construction, utilities, environmental fieldwork, emergency services, and infrastructure projects, particularly where unsealed or difficult terrain is involved.
Once all course requirements are completed, you will receive a Statement of Attainment that is nationally recognised across Australia.

This four-wheel drive training course is designed for workers who operate vehicles in remote, rugged, or off-road conditions. It’s ideal for those in mining, energy, utilities, construction, agriculture, and environmental services, as well as emergency responders, council workers, and field technicians who regularly access unsealed or challenging terrain.
Whether you’re a beginner needing foundational skills or an experienced driver looking to meet compliance requirements, this course provides the knowledge and practical training to drive safely and confidently in any 4WD environment.

Face-to-face training and assessment are conducted at one of Link Resources’ purpose-built training facilities. Upon arrangement, training and assessment can be conducted on-site at the premises of industry clients, provided they have a suitable infrastructure and industry training facilities.
Link Resources Training Facilities:
All students must be literate in the English language (no interpreters allowed).
Operators must have the appropriate class of driver’s licence before taking charge of the vehicle and be physically capable of operating the vehicle.
At enquiry, students can enter the program by expressing an interest and being sent an information pack that contains a booking notification and course information (Course Brochure). This interest process enables the RTO and client to work together to ensure the course is suitable for them and to identify any additional support needs & make adequate provisions.
No pre-requisites exist for these Units of Competency.

Yes – our 4WD Skill Set includes practical low-range driving techniques, teaching you how to safely operate a 4WD vehicle over challenging terrains like hills, rough tracks, and riverbeds. You’ll gain confidence in selecting the right gears and techniques for different off-road conditions.
Yes. Participants are welcome to use their own 4WD, provided it meets safety and training requirements. The vehicle must be roadworthy, appropriately insured, and approved by your trainer. A $175 discount applies when using your own vehicle.
No prior experience is necessary. This course is suitable for both beginners and experienced drivers. You’ll receive all the theory and practical training you need to safely operate a four-wheel drive in off-road and remote conditions.

Students who are deemed competent will receive a Statement of Attainment recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework. This certification is nationally recognised. The Statement is issued by Link Resources Training Pty Ltd (RTO 45483).
